Personally I choose to use Backup & Restore when migrating to new drives as this is a safer option as the original, working drive is removed from the PC and set aside, so that only the new drive is physically installed in the PC and rescue media is used to boot the PC and restore a backup image from an external USB drive. To use restore with the WD ATI application, it needs to detect a WD drive, hence my first question above. Have you make a full Disk backup of the original source 128GB SSD? This is highly recommended as is your safety net in case of mistakes / errors etc, plus you can use the backup image to restore to the new SSD instead of using cloning. I have tried doing it both automatically and manually. I have tried doing this using the “Clone Disk” feature in the Acronis software.
My goal is to have a drive that I can store offsite and use to boot my computer in the event both HD’s in my desktop computer fail. I have been trying - unsuccessfully so far - to clone my C drive to an external HD - a Western Digital Passport 500 GB -using the Acronis software. Using the Acronis software I successfully cloned my C drive (original HD in computer) to the new HD. With the purchase of the HD I got a free download of Acronis True Image software (WD Edition).
I bought and installed a new WD 1TB HD as the secondary HD in my desktop computer.
